"358" derives its name from its precise mesh dimensions: 3" x 0.5". The number 8 denotes the wire gauge, which translates to 4mm in diameter. Thus, the 358 guardrail measures 76.2mm x 12.7mm x 4mm.
The 358 safety fence boasts a narrow mesh that is nearly impenetrable for objects. Its small apertures make traditional hand tools ineffective for cutting.
