"358" derives its name from the precise mesh size of 3" x 0.5" and the 8-gauge wire, which converted into millimeters is 4mm. Thus, the 358 guardrail dimensions are 76.2mm x 12.7mm x 4mm.
The 358 safety fence features a narrow mesh design that is incredibly difficult for objects to pass through. This small mesh, combined with traditional hand tools, makes cutting nearly impossible.
